New letterboxes(2) Oregon

From: K.L.Sinizer (funhog@pacifier.com) | Date: 2001-10-02 17:18:03 UTC-07:00
On October 2, 2001 Windairen and Funhog placed two new letterboxes at
Fernhill Wetlands near Forest Grove in Washington County, Oregon.
Besides being a sewage treatment facility, this spots main claim to
fame is its reputation as a birdwatching bonanza. There are always
resident birds of prey, ducks, songbirds and herons. In the wintertime
the population swells and the ponds teem with migratory waterfowl.

to the trailhead: From the stoplight at the intersection of Highway 8
and Maple in Forest Grove, go south on Maple. Maple will change names to
Fernhill Rd. and the Fernhill Wetlands parking area will be on your left
marked bya brown sign. Be sure to look at the map on the information
kiosk.

to the Fernhill Raptor Box: Take the low road to a dabblers retreat.
Dont forget to duck, though quacking is optional. Look to your right,
up and inside some arboreal detritus. Stumped yet? -placed by Windairen

to the Fernhill Waterfowl Box: Go clockwise around Fernhill Lake. Keep
on the trail past Barbara and Clyde until you come to the junction with
a bench. Take the trail at 165 degrees (magnetic) for 45 paces. The box
is on your left guarded by industrial detritus. -placed by Funhog

Windairen and Funhog,

Early this evening we enjoyed finding both your letterboxes at the
Fernhill Wetlands. We saw many blue herons and great egrets in the
process, which added all the more to our experience. You definately
picked a nice site and hope others will share in the experience too.

Warmest Regards,

Mark&Beth
